Story of Johnny
Apples
1.
I read the story "The Little House With No Doors, No Wondows and a Star
Inside."
2. Using our
5 senses we describe the apples and make a chart with the
5 sense headings. (This is posted
for use later.)
3. The
children break into their teams (3-4 children per team) and
complete the apple math sheet using their apples. *
They predict then weigh their apples using scales
and record information. *They
predict, then measure the circumference of
their apples using cloth tape measures and
record the information. *They
predict, then test, whether their apples will
sink of float.
4. I go
around and cut their apples, horizontally, to reveal the star
and seeds. They count the number of seeds in their apple. We save the
seeds and plant them later to see if any will sprout. They predict,
then test, to see whether their cut apples will sink or
float.
5. The
children will write a 5 sense poem using the information
saved and posted from the opening brainstorming session.
6. We
make two graphs to show our favorite apples and our favorite
ways to eat apples. Our pictures
and graphs will be coming soon!
