The News from Mrs. Hughes Weekly Edition
January
January opens
The box of the year
And brings out days
That are bright and clear.
And brings out days
That are cold and gray,
And shouts, "Come see
What I brought today!"

Religion
We are  studying about the Ephiphany. We are working on the Act of Hope in preparation for a test next Monday. Mark your calendar for the first week in March when the children will be assisting with Mass and doing the prayers over the intercom.  Some of the children will be taking home readings to practice  at the end of  February.  We will be fortunate to sing in the choir the following week and another week a bit later.
Reading/ and L.A.
We are reading Mr. Popper's Penguins and are beginning our second reader. The first story is an amusing one called "The Terrible Eek". Your child needs to be thinking about a snowman story. We'll  start one in class  and finish it class. Some of it will be homework. Check in "January" on the website for detailed requirements for the story. We will put these in our permanent writing portfolio.  The spelling packet is coming home. We will have a "weighty word for extra credit. The word and definition will  be in your child's planner. Tests will only be given in weeks with three or more days.

Math  This week we are study graphs, grids, mean, median and mode. We will take a test on the 7 times tables next Tuesday.

Science.
We are beginning our study of weather for the next few weeks.  Your child has a choice of assessmenets. Each may do the project under "Our Classroom", then under Science or take the test on weather.
Social Studies
We will complete our study of   pioneers, colonies and  our country's independence. Look for a study guide to go home  in your child's red folder.
I hope you like the News online. It  has been one year this week since I began it!  It saves a lot a paper.  It is designed to give you up- to-date information for you and your child. Parents have  given me positive feedback. Remember, I am always open to your suggestions! Direct them to me since it is my site. and not affiliateed with the school. It  has been made with love on my own time and  with my funds......You have been very encouraging. Thank  you for sharing your comments!
